NDA Transformation Office

Context

Having established the strategic imperative for the transformation of the NDA (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority), we needed to figure out a programme of action that would actually move the needle on creating a more cohesive, collaborative, and ‘intelligent’ owner for the UK’s legacy nuclear estate.

Action

  • Established and led Transformation Office of 10

  • Grounded the work in 'organisational health' diagnostic of all staff - repeated annually

  • Scoped multi-year programme 'The Way Ahead'

  • Recruited internal team of 7 FTE

  • Managed procurement of consulting support, gaining Cabinet Office approval (approx £2 million)

  • Crown Commercial Services managed the contract award, selecting McKinsey

  • Established ground-breaking, values-driven engagement programme of all NDA staff

  • Produced refreshed 'Role of the NDA', Values, new Code of Conduct, Corporate Strategy, high level organisation design and key requirements for capabilities, processes and interfaces with subsidiary businesses

  • Laid foundation for digital transformation of the NDA Group

Impact

Achieved breakthrough levels of employee engagement, robust stakeholder support and successful handover to NDA functional executives to embed new ways of working in each of their teams. Laid the foundation for ‘One NDA’ - the new, more corporate groups overseeing the decommissioning of our nuclear legacy.
